On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Community Health Services CEO Joe Liszak was honored with the Chamber of Commerce of Sandusky County's 2026 Distinguished Service Award. Joe accepted the award on behalf of the entire United Way of Sandusky County Men Against Cancer (MAC) Committee, which he helped establish and has chaired for the past four years.
While Joe has served—and continues to serve—on numerous boards and committees throughout the region, the MAC Committee holds a special place in the hearts of both Joe and the CHS family. Since its inception, the committee's annual fundraising event has raised more than $140,000 to benefit the United Way of Sandusky County Cancer Care Fund.
The Cancer Care Fund was established in 1998 by Joe and CHS employees in memory of CHS employee Kaye Letzring, who lost her battle with cancer. Since then, CHS employees have continued to support the fund through a variety of annual fundraising efforts, with 100% of the proceeds staying within the community to help local individuals and families affected by cancer.
One of the organization's most cherished traditions is its annual Holiday Baked Goods Auction, held during the week of Thanksgiving. Employees donate homemade baked goods and other items, which are auctioned during a special employee luncheon. Over the years, this event alone has contributed thousands of dollars to the Cancer Care Fund.
We are incredibly proud of Joe and grateful for the time, leadership, and compassion he brings to the many organizations and causes he supports. We especially appreciate his dedication to Men Against Cancer and the remarkable work of the entire MAC Committee, whose efforts help make life a little easier for members of our community facing cancer.
Congratulations, Joe, on this well-deserved recognition!
